RecoveryWerks!
“People do recover and recovery does work! I believe helping families heal is critical when a loved one has addiction because no one gets better if no one gets better. We weren’t meant to go through this journey alone and I want to make sure communities have the recovery resources they need to start healing. ”
About Us
“We see so many miracle stories but people don’t want to talk about them because of the shame associated with addiction and recovery. I want to help remove that stigma and help people to understand addiction as a disease, not a moral failing.”.

Joanne Daxon, Program Director
Joanne Daxon is a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) and Certified Restorative Therapist who brings deep insight and passion to helping families impacted by addiction. She is the author of the book A New ‘Normal’ Now, a brave and honest look at parenting teens with substance use problems that has helped hundreds of families in recovery.
Joanne began working as an LCDC with the Palmer Drug Abuse Program (PDAP), now Rise Recovery, in 2000. A Registered Nurse and a mother of five, she witnessed firsthand her two youngest children’s struggles with substance use. She became a certified dependency counselor and therapist after seeing the positive changes they experienced through PDAP. Over her 15 years with the program, she has developed a keen understanding of how substance use affects the entire family.
She started the New Generations program at PDAP to give younger children and siblings in families impacted by addiction a safe place to share their feelings and develop effective coping strategies. With RecoveryWerks!, she is bringing chemical dependency counseling closer to home for teens, parents and families in the Comal and Guadalupe Counties.
